Ahead of the theatrical release of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, TikTok partnered with Universal Pictures to create the only creator screening and experience celebrating one of the year’s most anticipated films. Designed for creators from around the world, the evening offered a rare opportunity to experience the film before anyone else and the history and art of shooting movies on 70MM film for IMAX.

The experience began with an advance screening presented on the first print of true 15-perf, 70mm IMAX at Universal Cinema AMC CityWalk before continuing onto the Universal backlot, where many parts of the movie were filmed. Guests passed the actual ship used on film and arrived at a transformed soundstage giving creators the chance to step on set of The Odyssey and celebrate the artistry, innovation, and technical achievement behind the film.

Entering through a custom archway and immersive tunnel inspired by the film, creators stepped inside a curated immersive experience featuring photo moments, exhibits, and curated food and beverages. After walking the step and repeat, creators were joined by Nolan’s right hand man, Oscar winning cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, and the actual groundbreaking IMAX Keighley camera used to capture the film. Hoyte discussed with creators how he shot the film and was joined by Patricia Keighley, who shared the story of developing the revolutionary camera system alongside her late husband, David Keighley, whose decades of innovation helped redefine IMAX filmmaking.

Guests explored an exclusive Kodak exhibit, where original film canisters and film strips from The Odyssey offered a unique look at the process behind the production. The display highlighted the more than two million feet of Kodak film used to bring the movie to life. After sharing their first reactions on the Letterboxd Review Wall, creators unlocked a digital Letterboxd Punch Card, marking IMAX 70MM as the first of six theatrical formats to experience the film. Rounding out the space was a Trojan Horse photo opportunity, inviting guests to step inside one of the film’s most recognizable symbols while capturing content inspired by the world of The Odyssey.

Elevated hospitality, themed cocktails, and the debut of Bero’s limited-edition The Odyssey x Noon Wheat complemented the evening, creating an atmosphere that felt less like a screening and more like a private invitation into the world of Nolan’s filmmaking. By bringing together the artists, innovators, and technology behind the film, TikTok and Universal delivered a one-of-a-kind experience that celebrated not only The Odyssey, but this momentous achievement as the first movie fully shot in IMAX.
